Dr. Katie Hammond, DO joins ERMC’s Family Practice

Eaton Rapids Medical Center (ERMC) welcomes Katie Hammond, DO, to the hospital’s Family Practice. Dr. Hammond is board-certified in internal medicine and comes to the hospital after five years practicing at McLaren Greater Lansing.

Dr. Hammond received her undergraduate degree in human biology from Michigan State University (MSU) in 2008 before completing her Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine through the university’s College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2013. She then completed her residency at McLaren Greater Lansing in 2013 where she went on to practice for five more years.

Hammond cites her interest in the overall science of the human body as the reason she decided to pursue internal medicine.

“I find the science of the body’s health and integrated systems very interesting,” she says. “That is part of the reason I am so passionate about preventative care as a key part of patients’ treatment plans.”

Dr. Hammond’s interest in establishing more meaningful bonds with patients was a key factor in her switch rural medicine, and to ERMC.

“I enjoy being someone that patients can trust. Smaller communities provide an opportunity to form lasting relationships with my patients and their families, something you can’t always do at larger health systems; and that trust helps me work with them to set and reach their health goals.”

When she is not practicing medicine, Dr. Hammond finds fulfillment in traveling, swimming, and spending time with her husband and two children.

“We love any excuse to be outdoors,” she explained. “I love watching my children participate in all of the activities they enjoy.”

Dr. Hammond is looking forward to taking on new patients in the ERMC community and working with them from diagnosis to follow-up to feel their best.
