Patient Financial Counselor named ERMC’s 2022 Non-Clinical Employee of the Year

Cherri Milligan, Patient Financial Counselor at Eaton Rapids Medical Center (ERMC), is this year’s recipient of the hospital’s non-clinical Meinke Sherman Care, Serve, Inspire Award. This award, established to honor ERMC’s founding physicians Dr. Albert Meinke and Dr. Eber Sherman, recognizes three hospital employees each year for their outstanding service: a leader, a clinical staff member, and a non-clinical staff member.

Milligan’s selection as the 2022 ERMC Non-Clinical Employee of the Year was based upon a nomination submitted by her co-workers which recognized her mentorship, willingness to help, and passion for customer service in the Patient Access department.

The nomination read, in part, “Cherri is one of the friendliest people I know; she always arrives to work with a smile on her face and a happy greeting for co-workers and patients. She extends a warm, welcoming disposition to every customer and handles difficult circumstances with admirable patience, tolerance, and respect.”

Milligan remembers starting her career at the community hospital more than 20 years ago and feeling like she had found a hidden gem.

“I am so blessed that 21 years ago the hospital welcomed me with open arms, I didn’t even know how to use the copier when I started here!” she laughed. “Everyone at ERMC was so patient and kind, I knew then I had found my forever job. I grew up in Eaton Rapids, so coming here was like coming home.”

She says the highlight of her workday is still the people. “I have formed so many close bonds with my co-workers and patients, I really do consider them family. The best part of my job is the opportunity to make someone’s day a little easier or help them smile in a difficult moment.”

Milligan says she was shocked when her name was announced during the award ceremony.

“I was so surprised to win! I work with so many awesome people that make a difference every single day in the hospital and out in our community. I felt humbled and grateful for the recognition.”

As part of the award, and in addition to many sincere congratulations from her coworkers, Milligan received a bouquet of flowers and a gift from the hospital’s administrative team to thank her for all she has done for ERMC.
