ERMC nurse recognized for 2023 Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses

Brittany Hernandez, Registered Nurse (RN) at Eaton Rapids Medical Center (ERMC), received the 2023 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, at a ceremony held on May 11, 2023. The ceremony took place at the hospital during National Nurses Week.

Hernandez, who has been with the Medical Surgical department at ERMC since 2017, was nominated for the award by her entire team. Over the past year, the unit has been exceedingly busy as staff has worked to treat COVID-19 patients in addition to long-term, surgical, and admitted patients. Staff wanted to show their appreciation for Brittany by nominating her with this award.

The nomination submitted by the Med/Surg staff read, in part, “Brittany is an amazing nurse. She loves her patients. She is knowledgeable, empathetic, caring and goes above and beyond the duties of her job and makes her patients feel at ease during their time of vulnerabilities. We are all fortunate to have such as exceptional nurse caring for our loved ones.”

In addition to the award, Hernandez received a bouquet of daisies, a Daisy Award pin, and a handmade sculpture entitled “A Healer’s Touch.”

“Being this year’s Daisy Award recipient means the world to me,” said Hernandez. “I truly appreciate the effort my patients put into acknowledging my dedication to caring for them. I have worked alongside most of the nominees, and I’ve witnessed the wonderful care they have given, so to know that I was nominated among those amazing nurses is a true honor.”

This award was created in 1999 by the DAISY Foundation to honor extraordinary nurses who go above and beyond to make a difference in patients’ and families’ experiences in healthcare. ERMC joins facilities all over the world in participating in this recognition program to celebrate nurses and the skilled, compassionate, dedicated care they deliver every day.
