Wheaton awarded ERMC Foundation Scholarship

Hannah Wheaton in Scrubs

Hannah Wheaton, an Eaton Rapids graduate and junior in the Kirkhof College of Nursing at Grand Valley State University (GVSU), is the recipient of the Eaton Rapids Medical Center (ERMC) Foundation’s seventh-annual $1,000 nursing scholarship. Wheaton was chosen as this year’s winner by a committee comprised of directors on the hospital’s Foundation Board.

In her application Wheaton explains she chose to study the field of nursing because it allows her to utilize her passion for science in a setting working with people. “I enjoy getting to know patients and make a difference in their care,” she says.

Wheaton graduated high school with a 4.2 GPA and has been on the GVSU Dean’s List her freshman and sophomore years at the university. She also has a long-standing passion for theater, acting in seven productions over the course of her high school career.

Once she has completed her undergraduate nursing program Wheaton plans to pursue a master’s degree while working full time as a nurse in a hospital setting. She is currently completing her clinicals at Spectrum Health Butterworth in Grand Rapids.

The ERMC Foundation began offering this scholarship in 2011 to students who plan to pursue a registered nursing degree. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage interested students to enter the medical field. To learn more about the scholarship or the hospital, visit www.eatonrapidsmedicalcenter.org.
