Mary Hancock, Patient Access Receptionist/Scheduler for the Rehab Department, is the recipient of this year’s non-clinical Meinke Sherman Care, Serve, Inspire Award.
Mary was selected as the 2024 Eaton Rapids Medical Center (ERMC) Non-Clinical Employee of the Year based on a nomination submitted by one of her colleagues. The nomination praised her unwavering dedication, kindness, and ability to inspire those around her.
The nomination read, in part: “Mary has dedicated over 20 years of her career to ensuring our patients receive excellent care. Not only does she go above and beyond for patients needing services, but she often manages multiple patients at the same time. She consistently provides empathetic, dedicated care to our patients because she cares so deeply about the people and community we serve.”
Mary has worked at ERMC for the past 21 ½ years in the Rehab Department. She shared that her favorite part of her job is interacting with the patients and making sure they feel welcomed and that their needs are met.
“Winning this award means so much to me,” said Mary. “Every day, I come into the Rehab Department wanting to make a difference in someone’s life. We see many patients with a variety of health issues. If I can say or do something to make their day brighter, more enjoyable, and just better, that’s my goal!”
The nomination also highlighted Mary’s exemplary dedication to patients: “She takes the time to get to know our patients and is always there to help them navigate the increasingly complicated healthcare system. Outside of that, she works hard to build relationships not only with patients but also with staff at other facilities. So many people know and trust her because, for over 20 years, she has consistently demonstrated her intelligence, capability, and dedication.”
Mary wanted to express her gratitude to the person who nominated her, as well as to Laurie Field and Laura Launstein, who have supported her through some of the toughest times in her life.
The Meinke Sherman Care, Serve, Inspire Award was established to honor ERMC’s founding physicians, Dr. Albert Meinke and Dr. Eber Sherman. This award recognizes three employees each year for their outstanding service: a leader, a clinical staff member, and a non-clinical staff member.
