Eaton Rapids Medical Center (ERMC) ranks first among Michigan hospitals for patient satisfaction based on the most recently released HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) scores. In addition, ERMC rates in the top 2 percent of the best hospitals in the nation.
The HCAHPS survey is the first national, standardized, publicly reported survey of patients’ perspectives of hospital care. This survey was developed and implemented by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and has been in use since 2006.
The CMS website explains that three broad goals shape the HCAHPS Survey. First, the survey is designed to produce comparable data on patients’ perspectives of care that allows objective and meaningful comparisons among hospitals on topics that are important to consumers. Second, public reporting of the survey results is designed to create incentives for hospitals to improve quality of care. Third, public reporting serves to enhance public accountability in health care by increasing transparency. With these goals in mind, the HCAHPS project has taken substantial steps to assure that the survey is credible, useful, and practical. This methodology and the information it generates are available to the public. More information about the HCAHPS Survey can be found at www.hcahpsonline.org/home.aspx.
In addition to ranking first in overall patient satisfaction scores, Eaton Rapids Medical Center ranks #1 in Michigan in the categories of Nurse Communication and Willingness to Recommend Hospital to others. HCAHPS results are based on four consecutive quarters of patient surveys and CMS publishes the results on the Hospital Compare website four times a year.
