ERMC board appoints new directors

Bob Dickins, Lowell Fernander, MD, and Rus Halsey have joined the Eaton Rapids Medical Center Board of Directors. The new directors replaced Jamie Davidson, Leonard Peters, and Rosi Terpening, who have served their term limits after nine years of service. ERMC directors safeguard the hospital’s charitable purpose and preserve its assets held in trust for the community. In addition to fiduciary duty and oversight of the organization, the members represent communities in which ERMC serves.

Dickins earned a Bachelor of Arts in Financial Administration from Michigan State University. Prior to his current role as the Business Development Officer at Eaton Federal Savings Bank, he served as President of SSBBank. Dickins has been an active member of the community since moving to Eaton Rapids in 1994. He currently serves as a member of the Eaton Rapids Public Schools Board of Education, Kiwanis Springbrook Manor Non-Profit Housing Association Board, Eaton Rapids Rotary Club, and American Legion Post 510.

“It’s an honor to join this highly regarded group of professionals,” said Dickins. “I look forward to working together to make the best decisions on behalf of our community.”

Dr. Fernander is the Medical Director of ERMC’s rural health clinics. He studied Pre-Med at the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom and attended St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine in the Cayman Islands. Prior to joining ERMC in 2017, he completed his internship at Wayne State University and Detroit Medical Center Sinai-Grace Hospital. Dr. Fernander also provides medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder to inmates at the Eaton County Jail.

When asked about his new role on the board, Dr. Fernander replied, “It’s a privilege to give input and support to the Board of Directors and to be able to help guide the strategic vision of our hospital.”

Rus Halsey has been a lifelong member of the community and was born at ERMC. He is the manager of the Eaton Rapids branch of Independent Bank and has nearly three decades of experience in financial industry leadership. Rus is a past president for the Eaton Rapids Rotary Club and remains an active member. He also serves on the board of the Eaton Rapids Education Foundation and has recently been named to the Planning Commission for the City of Eaton Rapids. Rus is a graduate of Ferris State University with a bachelor’s degree in Finance with a focus on Management.

“Our hospital is a cornerstone of Eaton Rapids,” remarked Halsey. “I’m happy to be able to give back to the community by bringing another perspective to the Board of Directors.”
