Second Grade Students Tour ERMC

ERMC Second Graders
Students learn about x-rays in the radiology department of ERMC

Second grade students from Eaton Rapids Public Schools, Island City Academy and Springport Public Schools visited Eaton Rapids Medical Center last week as part of the National Hospital Week celebration. The second grade tours are a long-standing tradition enjoyed by students and ERMC staff alike. The purpose of the tours is to give children some familiarity of the hospital so that they will be less anxious if they need care.

Students had the opportunity to visit the laboratory, see the rehabilitation department and tour the radiology department. HealthWorks Fitness Center staff members taught the second graders about the importance of fitness, while ERMC pharmacists discussed different types of medications and reviewed how children should only take medications from parents, guardians or trusted caregivers. Laboratory technicians demonstrated proper hand hygiene by using fluorescent lotion under a UVA lamp. The students also learned about the job function of a respiratory therapist, as well as why it is sometimes necessary to take a blood samples and x-rays. By the time they left the hospital, the students were dressed up like little surgeons.
