Staff Highlights

Eaton Rapids Medical Center (ERMC) employees Marcia Jackson and Penny McWhirter were honored with the Dr. Meinke and Dr. Sherman Distinguished Service Award at the hospital's 2013 Winter Gala. Each year, two employees are recognized for providing exceptional service to Eaton Rapids Medical Center patients and the community. The award was established to honor Dr. Meinke and Dr. Sherman, physicians who were instrumental in the founding of Eaton Rapids Medical Center.

Marcia Jackson has been working as a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Medical/Surgical Unit for 31 years. The nomination states, "Marcia takes great pride in ERMC. She quietly goes about doing her job on a daily basis, never calling attention to all she does. She is kind and caring with fellow staff members. Marcia is tuned into others by the attention she gives them during conversation. You feel like what you're saying is important and of true interest to her. With her many years of experience, others see her as a familiar face and look to her with confidence. Her demeanor radiates comfort and shows her true commitment to the customer service we need to give. Her heart is in the right place by all she does and all she supports. Pats on the back are not what Marcia needs; rather seeing a patient comfortable and well cared for bring her the greater satisfaction. She loves what she does and where she spends her day. This is made evident by her smile, hard work and loyalty."

Penny McWhirter is a Lead Buyer in the Materials Management Department and has worked for the hospital for 18 years. According to the nomination, "Penny's pride in ERMC is evident in everything she does! She is always tuned into the needs of others. Her duties are such that she helps our patients and our hospital behind the scenes. From her cheerful, upbeat good morning greeting to her daily delivery routine, Penny always carries a smile and offers a positive attitude. Though business always comes first, Penny always makes time to offer help with many events and causes. She has been asked to represent ERMC by leading the hospital's Relay for Life team. Penny also played a very active role in this year's Michigan Harvest Gathering food drive. I can think of no better ambassador for the hospital."
