New Emergency Department Construction Begins

On May 9, 2008, groundbreaking ceremonies took place to commence the building of a new Emergency Department at Eaton Rapids Medical Center.

The $6.2 million project will increase the number of beds from 6 to 10, create a separate waiting area for Emergency patients and will resolve privacy issues.  Each patient will have a private room and   enjoy the convenience of bedside registration. A chapel, decontamination room and physician consultation area will also be added.  The project also provides for future growth in the Specialty Clinics area to meet the increasing demand for services. 

Several area organizations, community members, employees and volunteers have raised over $540,000 in support of this exciting project.

Girl Scout Troop # 39 Donates Stuffed Animals

Members of Girl Scout Troop #39 collected stuffed animals and donated them to Eaton Rapids Medical Center.  The toys will be given to pediatric patients who come to the Medical Center for treatment.

According to Emergency Department Manager, Connie Ebare, “Having a gift to present a child really helps calm their nerves and reassures them that we are there to make them feel better.” 

The Troop collected the animals through individual donations, school collection drives and received several boxes of animals from Kohl’s .  Under the direction of Troop Leader Jenna Bush, “The girls worked very hard to count, sort, pack and distribute animals not only to Eaton Rapids Medical Center but to area police and fire departments.” 

Bankers Support Emergency Department Construction

Local bank employees have been wearing scrubs to show their support of the new Emergency Department being built at Eaton Rapids Medical Center  The next time you will find the bankers donning the blue scrubs will be Friday, April 4 at all Eaton Rapids banks.

The idea originated with Tim Dickinson, manager at Independent Bank.  He was looking for a way that his bank could support the project and at the same time, help to inform the community that a new Emergency Department was being planned.  As other banks heard about his plan, they were all eager to help ERMC promote this exciting building project.

All bank staffers at National City, Eaton Federal Savings Bank, Independent Bank, SSBBank, Consumers Professional Credit Union and Homestead Savings Bank are wearing scrubs and telling customers about the new Emergency Department.   

The new Emergency Department will provide patients with private rooms and bedside registration improve privacy, separate Emergency waiting from the general public, and many more improvements that will allow Eaton Rapids Medical Center to grow as volumes continue to increase.  Construction will begin May, 2008.
